Make Room for Him

There was no room for them in the inn.
                                —Luke 2:7

I watched as children gathered, waiting for the school bus. They gravitated to groups. Friends. My heart ached for a precious girl who was shunned: no clique had room for her. “We don’t have room for you!” inflicts unspeakable pain.

Jesus was still in Mary’s womb when the innkeeper said, “We don’t have room for you.” And three decades later, when he hung on the cross, the message was, “We don’t have room for you in this world.”

Today, he goes from heart to heart, asking if he may enter. If he is welcomed and invited in, Jesus responds, “My Father’s house has many rooms” (Jn 14:2).

When you make room for him in your heart, Jesus makes room for you in his house.

Give him residence in your heart.
