He who began a good work in you
will bring it to completion.
—Philippians 1:6
The day after my high school graduation, two pals and I took a 185-mile trip from Midland, Texas, to the McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mountains.
As we drove up the mountain in my old thirdhand Dodge, the tailpipe was belching black smoke, and the radiator was spewing steam. Barely moving, the thought of rolling backward downhill was terrifying.
“Hey, look how far we’ve come!” said one of my companions. My rearview mirror revealed that we were closer to the top of the mountain than the bottom.
Are you feeling that your Christian life has stalled? Rethink it. You’ve come further than you think. As someone wrote:
I am not what I ought to be.
I am not what I am going to be.
But thank God, I am not what I used to be.
Keep climbing.
