Mercy triumphs over judgment.
—James 2:13
In the big leagues, a .350 batting average is a big deal. If a player can hit at that level for a few seasons, he’s a good bet for the Hall of Fame.
But wait! That impressive statistic means that the athlete who hits .350 strikes out six times out of ten when he steps into the batter’s box. Just thirty-five percent success marks him as a champion.
It causes me to wonder if our expectations of those around us are realistic. Expecting a spouse, a child—or anyone else—to bat a thousand is unrealistic. Never make a mistake? Never stumble? Never say or do the wrong thing? Never strike out? C’mon, coach! Lighten up!
Go easy in judging others.
