Henry’s Prayer

Deliver us from evil.
   —Matthew 6:13

Frances Comer, wife of preacher/author John Comer, had a habit of jotting notes in her Bible—words from prayers or sermons that inspired her gentle heart.

Thumbing through her Bible one day, she called out to John, “Listen to what Henry Lowe prayed in October 1999: ‘Lord, help us not to let you down in too many areas this week.’”

We try to live up to the Lord’s expectations but always come up short; never get through a week without stumbling and letting him down.

We need help to trim our stumbles.

Maybe a good place to start would be to make Henry’s prayer our own. “Lord, help me not to let you down in too many areas this week.”

Amen?

Go to bed better than when you woke up.
