The Lord knows those who are his.
—2 Timothy 2:19
God knows everything about you. But he doesn’t just know about you; he knows you: “Now that you know God—or rather are known by God” (Gal 4:9). There’s a difference between knowing about a person and really knowing them.
God told Moses, “I am pleased with you and I know you by name” (Ex 33:17).
God knows you. You are the object of divine attention, singled out, known by God and by Jesus.
When you are asked for a reference, you give the name of someone who can vouch for you because they know you. Jesus is interceding for you because he knows you: “I know my own,” he said (Jn 10:14).
There are places you can’t enter without confirmation. You are known in heaven. “I know her, she’s my friend.” Enter.
God doesn’t just know about you;
he knows you.
