Fruit of the Spirit: Faithfulness

Well done, good and faithful servant.
                     —Matthew 25:21

“Do you faithfully promise to be hers, and only hers, as long as you both shall live?” I asked.

“I do,” he said.

Eleven years later, a phone call informed me that he had lied. To her. To me. To everyone in that chapel. And to God.

You can let your full weight down on God’s faithfulness: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lam 3:22–23).

In turn, our faithfulness to God and to each other must be unconditional.

Faithfulness means being trustworthy, dependable, reliable.

So live that at the end you will hear the welcome words, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Mt 25:21).

There is no gray area for faithfulness.
