“God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” That’s what the bumper sticker said.
It gave me a warm feeling. I appreciated the sentiment. But it was wrong.
The veracity of what God says isn’t dependent on my belief. We must eliminate the middleman. The accurate statement would read: “God said it; that settles it.”
What God says, I should believe. But whether I believe it or not doesn’t alter it. Whether you believe it or not doesn’t alter it. If God says it, it stands. If it is spoken by the omnipotent, omniscient Lord, the debate is over.
If God says it, that settles it.
