Treat others as you want them to treat you.
—Matthew 7:12
The kids had finished building their clubhouse. A clubhouse must have rules, so they came up with two and nailed them on the front door:
Nobody act big.
Nobody act little.
That strikes me as pretty good theology.
Don’t act big. “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves” (Phil 2:3). “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth” (Prv 27:2).
Don’t act little. Don’t put yourself down. God made you, and Jesus died for you, so you must be special. And don’t be little in your treatment of others: God made them, and Jesus died for them. Don’t put them down. They’re special, too.
Don’t act big. Don’t act little.
