The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer.
—1 Peter 3:12
Hezekiah was a good man. He brought the nation of Judah back to God by refurbishing the temple, reinstating the Passover, and terminating idolatry.
Hezekiah was only thirty-nine when he became critically ill. God sent Isaiah to him with this terrifying message: “Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover” (2 Kgs 20:1).
Hezekiah prayed and wept. That touched God’s heart, and he told Isaiah to return to Hezekiah’s bedside with this message from the Lord: “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you” (2 Kgs 20:5).
The story doesn’t tell you what God will do in every situation, but it does tell you that when you pray, God hears, and when you weep, God sees.
Come to God whenever you like, stay as long as you like,
and talk to him about whatever you like.
