Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.
—Luke 8:8
Luke 8:5–8 records Jesus’ Parable of the Sower; and verses 11–15 explain its meaning.
The parable pictures the four kinds of soil on which the seed—the Word of God—falls:
- the unresponsive heart (v. 12)
- the impulsive heart (v. 13)
- the preoccupied heart (v. 14)
- the responsive heart (v. 15).
I have observed all of the above in people I’ve known: grieved over 1 and 2 and rejoiced over 4.
But for myself and my brothers and sisters, number 3 gives me the greatest concern. It pictures good but preoccupied people, warning against three things that trip them up:
- Worry
- Wealth
- Worldly pleasures
These are the hazards that frequently sink saints.
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
Don’t ignore warning signs.
