The light shines in the darkness.
—John 1:5
Much of the world pauses at this season to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
“The Word [Christ] became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (Jn 1:14). When John spoke of his coming to live among us, he said, “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world” (Jn 1:9).
There was—and is—the darkness of sin and despair remaining in our world. But the Bethlehem birth gave us a light to shine in the darkness.
The light of his presence is stronger than the darkness. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (Jn 1:5). Nor can it.
Let the light shine.
