This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope.
—Lamentations 3:21
Whatever your go-to source for news, you’re seeing and hearing things you never wanted to see and hear—things that leave you feeling helpless and hopeless.
Lamentations is a horrific account of a people and nation gone terribly wrong. Every page of the book is filled with the devastating consequences of an out-of-control society.
With one exception.
“My soul is downcast,” Jeremiah admitted. “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope.”
What do you call to mind that gives you hope, Jeremiah? This: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning . . . therefore I will hope in him” (Lam 3:22–24).
Call those words to mind. They make life not only bearable but hopeful, even exhilarating.
God’s mercies are new every morning.
