My eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord.
—Psalm 141:8
“You have a winner there,” I said to the lady in line in front of me as she cuddled her beautiful baby.
“This is my third,” she said. “God is giving me another chance to get it right. I know I won’t be able to fix everything for her when she has problems, but I want to be there for her and be a good mom.”
We want to be problem solvers but learn that we are limited in our capacity to fix things gone wrong.
That lady with the baby knew where the word “fix” fit in her life. In his paraphrase of Hebrews 12:2, Eugene Peterson had it right: “Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”
You’ll get it right if you put God first.
