Blessed are those who are invited
to the wedding supper of the Lamb.
—Revelation 19:9
The wedding banquet had been scheduled. The invitations had gone out. The RSVP returns were coming in.
Some of the invited guests sent their regrets. One had bought a piece of property and needed to check it out. Another had purchased some work animals and was on his way to test them. Another had just married and was obligated to be with his new bride (Lk 14:16–20).
Property. Occupation. Family. A short list of life’s most pressing commitments—and, if we’re not careful, the biggest rivals to discipleship.
Rejection of the heavenly invitation is usually due to higher priorities: possessions, professions, and people often trump God’s summons.
It’s a big deal to be invited to the Lord’s heavenly banquet. And a big mistake to turn it down.
If it’s a priority, you’ll find a way.
If it isn’t, you’ll find an excuse.
