Run in such a way as to get the prize.
—1 Corinthians 9:24
Ours is a winner-oriented world. In sports, business, and politics, it’s winning that counts—and winners that count.
It filters down even to the trivial. I received an email from a lady who told me she had entered a Halloween contest. “And guess what! I won third place in the ‘Crazy, Scary, Makeup’ category!”
I’m happy for her, but in the long run, I doubt that the bronze medal in the “Crazy, Scary, Makeup” category is all that important.
Or the Super Bowl, the World Series, or the Fortune 500.
But there’s one place where it counts for everything. “Run in such a way as to get the prize. [Athletes] do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever” (1 Cor 9:24–25).
The gold medal podium can be yours.
