Let us come before him with thanksgiving.
—Psalm 95:2
Most generous Father,
Accept my thanks for
- the measure of health I enjoy,
- the sheltering comfort of home,
- the sufficiency of food and clothing,
- the continuance of mental alertness,
- the blessings of my country, my community, my church,
- the memory of those who have loved me whose seats at my table are now empty and the company of loved ones whose seats remain occupied.
Forgive me for a failing awareness of your generosity in gifting me with these blessings—and for my self-centered pride in taking credit for providing them myself.
You have given me so much. I ask for one thing more: a grateful heart.
Amen.
Thanksgiving should be daily,
not annual.
