Jesus came and stood among them
and said, “Peace be with you!”
—John 20:19
On Sunday evening, following the crucifixion of Jesus, his disciples retreated to a designated room. They were terrified, probably fearful that they might be next in line for a death sentence. John says they “were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders.” Then comes the surprise: “Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’” (Jn 20:19).
I’m wondering where you are as you read these words. Your kitchen table? Your office? Your easy chair? A hospital room?
Wherever you are, Jesus enters that room and offers you peace. Designated spaces and locked doors are no barriers to his presence.
Whatever you’re facing today, his message comes to comfort you: “Peace be with you!”
Wherever you are, so is he.
