Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
—Jeremiah 17:7
In Proverbs 3:5, Solomon advised: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”
We are slow to trust the promises of politicians and the guarantees of institutional and commercial organizations. Guarding against being duped by duplicity, deceit, and dishonesty is hardwired by experience into our mental DNA.
So, trusting God doesn’t come easy. It means having unyielding faith in him when things are not going well: when you feel mistreated, betrayed, and abandoned.
Back to Solomon’s advice: Trust in the Lord, not in your own understanding.” Your understanding is limited. “[God’s] understanding has no limit” (Ps 147:5).
He knows what he is doing; you may not. He knows where he is taking you; you may not.
So, trust him through tears, trials, and troubles—even when you don’t understand.
Trust an unknown future to a known God.
