The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts.
—Psalm 28:7
Joseph said to his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Gn 50:20).
Job said, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust him” (Jb 13:15).
Jesus said, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands” (Lk 23:46).
What do we learn about trust from these three?
We learn that God is in control even when it seems that things are out of control.
We learn that God is doing what is right even when it seems that things are going wrong.
We learn that God is present even when it seems that he is absent.
Joseph, Job, and Jesus modeled trust, not by declaring it when things were wonderfully good but by owning it when things were terribly bad.
Trust in God isn’t a shot in the dark;
it is certainty that leads to the light.
