This is the day the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
—Psalm 118:24
“Have a nice day!” chirped the perky salesgirl to her customer.
“Young lady, that’s just not a part of my plan!” the lady snapped.
God has given you this day. How will you use it?
All of us could name a dozen family and friends we have accompanied to the cemetery. The sun set on their lives before it rose on this day.
But you and I have lived to experience, use, and hopefully enjoy this day. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime gift. There has never been another day exactly like this one—nor will there ever be another one just like it. God’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lam 3:23).
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord . . . to declare [his] steadfast love in the morning, and [his] faithfulness by night” (Ps 92:1–2).
Have a nice day—unless you have other plans.
