You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
—Psalm 139:2
“There’s an all-seeing eye watching you!”
Remember that song?
It was intended to keep you on the straight and narrow. God was watching everything you did, hearing everything you said, monitoring everything you were thinking—and writing it all in his black book.
One day he would call your name, open the book to your page, and you would have to face the music.
Gulp!
But you could sing that song today with a smile on your face and joy in your heart because your interpretation of those words is different now: God is watching over you because he loves you, not because he wants to catch you sinning.
“You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest; you are aware of everything I do” (Ps 139:3).
Some look at God and think they’re sunk.
Others look at God and know they’re saved.
