I trust in your word.
—Psalm 119:42
Irv Gordon got his spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998 when his 1966 Volvo clocked 1.69 million miles—the most ever driven by a single owner of a non-commercial vehicle.
But Irv wasn’t done: in 2013, his Volvo’s odometer hit its 3-millionth mile.
He said the secret was servicing the car exactly as the owner’s manual instructed: “I figure the people who built the car know best how to maintain it.”
“Your hands made me and formed me,” wrote the psalmist (Ps 119:73). Throughout that long chapter, the writer repeatedly declares his determination to follow God’s maintenance instructions: “I will obey your decrees;” I will always obey your law;” “I will not neglect your word.”
God, who made you and wrote the servicing guidelines, knows best how your life should be lived.
When all else fails,
read the instructions.
