Everyone who is arrogant in heart
is an abomination to the Lord.
—Proverbs 16:5
He was a gym rat—looked like he’d been chiseled out of marble. The flight attendant said—for the third time—“Sir, please fasten your seatbelt.” Flashing an arrogant grin, he said, “Superman don’t need no seatbelt.” She shot back, “Superman don’t need no airplane. Now buckle up.”
Arrogance is distasteful to those who see it and destructive to those who have it.
Inflated pride in her beauty reduces the head-turner from attractive to obnoxious. So does pride of the successful in his success; the talented in her talent; the scholar in his scholarship; the pious in her piety; and the humble in his humility.
The first item in the list of seven things God hates is “haughty eyes” (Prv 6:17).
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Prv 16:18).
Arrogance is a strange disease—it makes
everybody sick except the one who has it.
