We are more than conquerors
through him who loved us.
—Romans 8:37
When the young servant saw the enemy army’s horses and chariots surrounding the city, he cried, “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?”
“Don’t be afraid,” Elisha answered, “those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
His servant’s skeptical squint prompted Elisha to pray, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” So, that’s what God did, and the now wide-eyed servant saw God at work (2 Kgs 6:15–17).
Paul puts it in present-day perspective: “If God be for us, who can be against us.” Nothing can separate us from his protection: “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future . . . nor anything else in all creation” (Rom 8:31, 38–39).
Dear God, open our eyes so we may see.
