Pay attention and listen
to the sayings of the wise.
—Proverbs 22:17
Flashing lights. Boom gates. Locomotive horns.
It’s risky to ignore railroad crossing warnings.
There are many warning signs in the Bible that have nothing to do with railroad crossings. Here’s a sampling from Proverbs.
About arrogance: “Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are” (3:7).
About jealousy: “Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but jealousy is like a cancer” (14:30).
About pride: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (16:18).
About quarreling: “It is hard to stop a quarrel once it starts, so don’t let it begin” (17:14).
About passing judgment: “What a shame—yes, how stupid—to decide before knowing the facts” (18:13).
About temper: “Foolish people lose their tempers, but wise people control theirs” (29:11).
Clear warnings, inspired by God and tested by time.
Heed the warnings and travel safely.
