Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord.
—Proverbs 12:22
PolitiFact is a fact-checking program designed to help sort out fact from fiction in politics. The analysts—a panel of three editors—compare politicians’ statements with known facts. The column’s Truth-O-Meter points to the rating the facts dictate: Pants on Fire, False, Mostly False, Half True, Mostly True, or True. The commentary then narrates the editors’ findings.
Sadly, we have become accustomed to politicians lying to us—we’ve come to expect it.
“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord” (Prv 12:22). God hates a lying tongue (Prv 6:17). “Liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone” (Rv 21:8).
We can’t control others’ words. But as children of a God who never lies, let us mirror the family likeness, living lives free of deceit and language free of falsehood.
Always be truthful, and you’ll never
have to remember what you said.
