[Jesus] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
—1 John 2:2
Here’s a question for you: “What is the longest you have gone without sinning?” A month? A week? A day?
Whatever the time frame, you have sinned: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 Jn 1:8).
Second question: “How long has it been since you have confessed a sin to God?” Looking back over the past week, have you confessed even one specific sin?
Third question: “What is God’s response to your confession of sin?” “If we confess our sins, he . . . will forgive us . . . and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn 1:9). Isn’t that just like God? He exposes our sinfulness—but doesn’t turn the page without serving up a happy ending.
Confess your sin. Ask forgiveness.
And God says, “Done.”
