David inquired of the Lord.
—1 Samuel 23:4
God said, “I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do” (Acts 13:22).
David was far from flawless, but he stayed centered in God’s will more than most.
How?
A short phrase says it all: nine times in First and Second Samuel, it is noted that David “inquired of the Lord.”
That’s what set him apart from his predecessor, King Saul. Saul’s sad epitaph runs this way: “Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord . . . and did not inquire of the Lord” (1 Chr 10:13, 14).
Make no decision, large or small, without inquiring of the Lord. It will make you a person after God’s own heart.
Consult God before setting the agenda.
