Lord, I want to see.
—Luke 18:41
Last year I was diagnosed with a detached retina in my right eye. For several weeks after surgery, I could see nothing with that eye, and for several months, very little.
It awakened my awareness of how blind and deaf I am to many of God’s blessings.
“You have seen many things, but have paid no attention; your ears are open, but you hear nothing” (Is 42:20).
“Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?” (Mk 8:18).
When blind Bartimaeus was brought to Jesus, the Lord asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. That is my prayer as well—and not just for my right eye.
Worse than being spiritually blind
is not knowing that you are.
