Set an example for the believers.
—1 Timothy 4:12
“Some Assembly Required.”
Those three words strike terror into the psyche of the all thumbs me. The pictures on the carton don’t match the parts in the box. Pieces are missing. Following the instructions—assuming they were included—would require six hands and a couple of tools I don’t have. I either want “No Assembly Required,” or I want to watch someone else put it together.
Perhaps that’s the reason the Bible puts so much emphasis on “Show me.”
“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ,” wrote Paul (1 Cor 11:1).
“Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity,” he instructed Timothy (1 Tm 4:12).
“Set them an example by doing what is good,” he told Titus (Ti 2:7).
Don’t just tell me, show me.
