Do not dwell on the past.
—Isaiah 43:18
Russell was a man of sweet temperament and serene disposition. Asked how he maintained such calmness, he said, “When I shut the door, I shut the door.”
“For many years,” he said, “I worried myself sick. It was absurd. Why had I locked the office door if I was going to let spreadsheets and quotas follow me home? Why did I lock the door when I entered my house if I was going to let all my worries follow me in? It was crippling my faith.
“I asked God to forgive me and promised that when I shut the door, I would shut the door.”
As the old year ends and the new year begins, shut the door on attitudes and concerns that you don’t want to follow you into coming days.
When you shut the door, shut the door.
