The Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us.
—John 1:14
“His word is his bond.” “If she says it, you can depend on it.”
These idioms declare that you can count on the person to be truthful—that there is no need to have them raise their right hand and “promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
We’re uneasy when we’re doubtful about the reliability of a person’s word.
It has become painfully common to hear some politicians publicly proclaim, “I give you my word,” only to discover that their word was worthless.
God is always faithful to his word.
But at this season, there is a special meaning in God’s promise, “I give you my Word”—“The Word became flesh” in the Bethlehem stable.
God gave us His Word.
