Do this in remembrance of me.
—1 Corinthians 11:24
There’s a boutique in my neighborhood called Things Remembered that sells unique items and engraves them to commemorate special occasions—one-of-a-kind gifts that are treasured by those who receive them.
Things remembered keep us connected to people, places, and times that have influenced and shaped us. They are personal and meaningful.
“You” was Jesus’ chosen pronoun when he instituted the Lord’s Supper: “This [bread] is my body given for you”—“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Lk 22:19, 20). This Sunday, when you eat the bread and drink the cup, make the pronoun personal—“I did this for you.”
John Stott called the Lord’s Supper “a fragrant forget-me-not.”
Remembrance keeps Christ’s sacrifice vivid.
