You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you.
—Isaiah 26:3
Helen Roseveare was a British medical missionary in the Congo. She built hospitals, a training center, and lived in a leprosy camp. During the Congolese civil war in 1964, Helen was arrested because of her intervention for villagers. In her five-month imprisonment, she was repeatedly beaten and raped by rebel soldiers.
After her release, Helen said, “I must ask myself this question as if it came directly from the Lord: ‘Can you thank Me for trusting you with this experience even if I never tell you why?’”
That’s heavy.
It takes the question of our trust to a new level, doesn’t it?
This is where I feel a need to bow out and leave you with your own self-examining thoughts.
At some point, your trust will be tested.
