The Lord is waiting so that
people have time to be saved.
—2 Peter 3:15
When life has us by the throat, and we’re exhausted and out of answers, we sometimes wonder why God doesn’t step in and solve the problem. What is he waiting for?
Instead of stepping in, maybe he’s tapping his foot and drumming his fingers, waiting for change in the person rather than in the situation.
Eugene Peterson paraphrased 2 Peter 3:9 this way: “[God] is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.”
Until a person is tired of the mess they’ve made of life and recognizes their need for him, he waits.
Are you waiting on God to act—
or is God waiting on you to change?
