This is the promise that he
made to us—eternal life.
—1 John 2:25
Early Sunday morning, following Friday’s crucifixion, grieving women trudged to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus. The tomb was empty. “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” an angel asked. “He is not here; he has risen!” (Lk 24:5, 6).
Paul declared that Jesus is “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep . . . [and that] in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Cor 15:20, 22). “I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus said. “Those who believe in me, even though they die will live” (Jn 11:25).
Life is an eye blink. You don’t know if you’ll have another day. What you do know is that when the sun sets here and comes up there, the new day is forever.
This life is fleeting.
The coming life is forever.
