Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
—Psalm 116:15
I’ve lost a lot of dear friends in recent years. I miss them. So, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Psalm 116:15—“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
Hebrews 2:15 speaks of those “held in slavery by their fear of death.” The death we fear is precious in God’s sight.
When his grandfather died, Madeleine L’Engle’s young son sat all day in silence. That night, when he reached the “God bless Grandfather” point in his bedtime prayer, he stopped. After a long pause, he said, “God, please take care of Grandfather wherever you want him to be, another star or wherever you think, and make him be all right, and we love him. Amen.”
Loss of a loved one is excruciating. If you are suffering that pain, I’m sorry.
Something beautiful and good
is on the other side of what we dread.
