I will come back and take you to be with me.
—John 14:3
Jesus’ disciples were devastated by his declaration, “I will be with you only a little longer” (Jn 13:33).
The only thing that made those heartbreaking words bearable was the postscript: “I am going to prepare a place for you . . . I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (Jn 14:3).
Jesus is in heaven, building you an eternal home “that can never perish, spoil or fade” (1 Pt 1:4).
While he is there preparing that place for you, the Holy Spirit is here preparing you for that place.
God sent Jesus the first time to save a world gone badly wrong.
He will send him a second time to take us home.
We don’t know the when, but we know
the what: he’s coming again.
