His mercies begin afresh each day.
—Lamentations 3:23
On March 9, 2015, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg lifted off from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in their Solar Impulse 2. On July 26, 2016, their multi-stage 26,000-mile journey ended at the same site, completing the first circumnavigation of the Earth by a piloted fixed-wing aircraft using only solar power.
The plane was designed to fly all day by solar power, storing enough extra energy during the day to fly all night. “When the sun rises,” Piccard said, “it brings the hope again that you can continue.”
Every sunrise gives birth to hope: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’” (Lam 3:22–24).
Let your first words every
morning be spoken to God.
