You did not choose me, but I chose you.
—John 15:16
Zechariah and Elizabeth had said their “I-dos” many years ago. But Elizabeth was barren, and in their culture, that was considered a sign of God’s displeasure—so this godly woman was the target of censure.
They were old when God blessed them with a very special baby—John, the forerunner of Jesus. The timing of his birth was to-the-second perfect.
So was yours.
You don’t feel special? All of God’s children are ordinary, who are made extraordinary by the purpose he has for them. In your corner of the world, he will use you to do something he is not doing with anyone else.
“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Ps 139:16). Write your name in the margin next to that sentence.
It’s a big mistake to do nothing
because you can’t do something big.
