Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
—2 Corinthians 9:15
On July 4, 2019, New York City police officers Louis Sojo, Esnaidy Chevas, and Michael Rivera, stepped inside a Whole Foods store to grab a cold drink. A security guard told them a woman was shoplifting.
The officers approached the woman. Scared, and expecting to be cuffed and jailed, the snack snatcher said, “I’m hungry.”
“We’ll pay for her food,” Sojo told the security guard. And they did. Cheeks wet with tears, she said, “Thank you! Thank you!”
We’ve been caught: “There is no one righteous, not even one . . . all have sinned” (Rom 3:12, 23).
Jesus stepped up and paid our sin debt.
“[We are] made right with God by his grace, which is a free gift . . . made free from sin through Jesus Christ” (Rom 3:24).
Thank you! Thank you!
A debt we could never pay
has been paid for us.
