As I have loved you, so you
must love one another.
—John 13:34
The conversation in the church foyer was mostly monologue—one brother railing about something he found wrong in the other. When the assailed brother turned away, the aggressor snapped, “Don’t ignore me. What’s happened to you?”
“You’ve known me a long time, and the only thing you’ve done is attack what you think is wrong with me. What’s happened to me is that you’ve missed the chance to love me, and to let me see Jesus—through you and in you.”
That stung! Not the assailant. Me! I am convicted. I’ve missed the chance to love some sisters and brothers—deprived them of the opportunity to see Jesus through me and in me.
“If I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing” (1 Cor 13:2).
Loving others may not change them,
but it will change you.
