We will do everything the Lord has said.
—Exodus 24:7
The office manager and I had a cordial conversation about the lease increase. She said she’d get back to me by the end of the day. That was a month ago. I haven’t heard a word.
Unkept promises are disappointing, but not unusual.
Jesus told a story about a man who said to one of his sons, “Go work in the vineyard. The boy said he would, but he didn’t” (Mt 21:30).
At Sinai, the Israelites promised Moses, “We will do everything the Lord has said.” They broke that promise in less than forty days.
In the period of the Judges, the Israelites repeatedly promised to follow God; and repeatedly broke the promise.
I have a feeling that God often laments, “People don’t do what they say they’ll do.”
Never give him reason to say that about you.
Don’t say it unless you’re going to do it.
