Make every effort to add to your faith.
—2 Peter 1:5
The apostle Peter opens his second letter with the assurance that God “has given us everything we need for life and godliness” (2 Pt 1:3). He then lists eight traits, and says, “If you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pt 1: 10–11).
The first trait is faith. On this foundation all the others are built. “Make every effort to add to your faith,” the apostle writes—and one after another they are added: goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love.
We all begin our trek to heaven in the same place—and the name of that place is Faith. That’s where it all begins.
Faith failure can put you in the wilderness
for forty years—or more.
