Don’t get discouraged and give up.
—Galatians 6:9
Opera buffs know the meaning of “It ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings.”
John Greenleaf Whittier’s encouragement poem, Don’t Quit, begins:
When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
The poem continues—then ends this way:
You never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit—
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
Hang in there. As Yogi said for fidgety sports fans, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”
Don’t quit. With God’s help,
you’ll find a way.
