Death has been swallowed up in victory.
—1 Corinthians 15:54
Surgeons at the Medical Center saved the life of a victim of a car crash on a Houston freeway but said he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Some victories are limited.
And some victories are temporary. Whoever wins the Super Bowl or the World Series this year will have to compete for the championship again next year.
Jesus’ victory over death was neither limited nor temporary—it was total and forever: “Death has been swallowed up in victory” is how Paul put it (1 Cor 15:54).
“I was dead,” Jesus said, “and behold I am alive forever and ever” (Rv 1:18).
And he left this note for you: “Because I live, you also will live” (Jn 14:19).
Because of Jesus, you are
a forever and ever person.
