Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.
—1 Corinthians 1:31
Solomon tried on lots of hats in pursuit of happiness. He had a boatload of wealth and wisdom. “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired,” he said. The result? “[E]verything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind” (Eccl 2:10, 11).
In the centuries since Solomon, the same chase has continued . . . with the same result.
Today take a serious look at these words from Jeremiah 9:23–24.
This is what the Lord says:
“Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.
Those with the least to boast about boast the most.
