God made him who had
no sin to be sin for us.
—2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus’ agonizing shriek on the Cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” was answered with silence.
Our Savior’s severance from our God can be comprehended only by awareness of the nature of sin—sin separates the sinner from God: “Your iniquities have separated you from God . . .” (Is 59:2).
It was our sins that caused the breach, for he took our iniquities upon himself (Is 53:6). “He changed places with us and put himself under that curse” (Gal 3:13 NCV).
Both the shriek of the Savior and the silence of the Father, say, “This is how much we love you.”
His immeasurable sacrifice
trumpets his unfathomable love.
