He who did not spare his own Son,
but gave him up for us all.
—Romans 8:32
Remember when you left your child at school that first day? And the day she backed out of the driveway and headed off to college?
Gulp!
Every year you had to give up a little bit of her. But overall you felt she was safe.
God sent his son into an environment that was anything but safe.
You released your child into the charge of people who cared; she would be okay. God knew his son wouldn’t be okay. He would be misunderstood, rejected, betrayed, forsaken, flogged, crucified.
Both you and your child knew you would be by her side in a heartbeat if she needed you. God knew that when his son needed him most and cried out, “Why have you forsaken me?” he would remain unresponsive.
They both went through all that for us.
Jesus on the Cross is the irrefutable
proof of God’s love for us.
