Cheer up! . . . He’s calling you.
—Mark 10:49
Jesus was just seventeen miles from Jerusalem, where he would be denied, tried, and crucified. How could he think of anything else?
Yet, when a blind beggar shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” he stopped and said, “Call him.” So the disciples told him, “Take heart. . . . he is calling you” (ESV).
The same was said to Mary: “The Teacher is here and is calling for you” (Jn 11:28).
Both were in agony: Bartimaeus because he was blind; Mary because her brother had died.
When you are weary and burdened, he calls you to come to him to receive rest for your soul (Mt 11:28).
“Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you . . .” (Ps 50:15).
He’s as near as your next breath
and never too busy to attend to your need.
